Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher Sell Sex With “No Strings Attached”

I think holding the door for the girl that you are having casual sex with is very romantic.
It should shock no one to hear such irreverent “wisdom” escape the lips of Ashton Kutcher. The comment is from a recent promotional interview for his forthcoming romantic comedy No Strings Attached. In it, he stars opposite Natalie Portman as life-long platonic friends who drop the platonic without adding love or commitment.
The calling card of “No Strings” is its cavalier attitude toward casual sex, and how members of the opposite sex have precious few boundaries talking about or engaging in the practice of making love. This isn’t “The Philadelphia Story,” where subtle references to sex were lightly bandied about by the likes of Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn. Instead, screenwriter Elizabeth Meriweather talks frankly about physicality in the 21st century.
The times have changed, you see. As Portman tells Entertainment Weekly, it’s high time Hollywood‘s depictions of romance change as well.

What if your spouse gave you a “week off marriage” to do whatever you wanted without consequence? Such is the premise of an upcoming comedy from the Farrelly Brothers.
Despite the swinging setup, Hall Pass seems likely to convey fairly conservative sentiments. The laughs emerge from a clash between expectation and reality, what the film’s men imagine “freedom” from marriage will bring and what really happens.
Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis play best friends, each married to winsome wives. Life is treating them well. They seem to want for nothing. Yet, each covet extramarital adventure. When their wandering eyes become embarrassingly obvious, the men’s wives decide that the best way to set things right is to let them have what they want.
The Latest Absurd Tea Party Smear: Its Driven By An Inter-Racial Sex Phobia

The Tea Party movement is motivated at its core by “fear of sex, race, and inter-racial ‘pollution.’” So says author David Rosen in a recent CounterPunch article.
The operative word is “says,” not “argues.” No argument is present in Rosen’s embarrassingly unfocused rant. Like a high school math student who neglects to show their work, Rosen skips straight from preconception to conclusion without bothering to offer a premise or supporting evidence. The Tea Party hates sex and brown people, Rosen says, punctuating the accusation with a list of personal scandals.
