Liberty Tree Radio – Is There Liberty After Ron Paul?
May 8, 2012 – Co-hosts Tim McShane and Walter Hudson break down the ideology and presidential candidacy of Ron Paul, then move on to an analysis of the congressman’s supporters and the learning curve of political movements. Can you vote for “the lesser of two evils” without sacrificing your principles? Could we actually learn something from the century-long progressive movement about how to affect political outcomes?

Liberty Tree Radio – Inaugural Episode
May 1, 2012 – This week sees the inaugural episode of Liberty Tree Radio, a new podcast delving beyond the news cycle to examine conservative and libertarian principles and consider why we believe what we believe. Co-host Tim McShane explains:
The Liberty Tree was a Dutch Elm tree in the middle of Boston Square during the Founding era. Patriots met there to discuss the principles of Liberty and news of the day, Liberty Tree Radio is harkening back to that practice.
McShane is joined by fellow Tea Partier and MNGOP activist, Walter Hudson, to discuss the intersection of the Tea Party with MNGOP politics. Should Tea Parties endorse? Should Tea Partiers run for office or help specific campaigns? Is there a danger of sacrificing principle to achieve political victory?

Brian Grogan for Minnesota House: Making the Tough Choices
September 2, 2010 – For over a year, I have maintained a quasi-weekly podcast, mostly as a cathartic release for my own political and cultural frustration. As new and more effective opportunities for activism have presented themselves, it has become more difficult to divert the time and effort necessary to keep the show going. However, there was one final guest I wished to host, and am glad I did.
For your consideration, I present a candid interview with Brian Grogan, the Republican endorsed candidate for Minnesota House in District 43B. Discussing education, business, and local government aid among other issues, he credits voters with the maturity to understand the truth – that our public policy choices are hard and cannot be avoided if we hope to preserve our future.

If we really do want to address the serious deficiencies we have – and this a huge issue that far too many legislators are not willing to talk about, and Republicans and Democrats are both guilty of this… our choices today aren’t good, bad, and worse. We have no good choices today. Our choices truly are bad and worse. And what I mean by that [is], our two areas which we have out of control spending in right now more than anything else are health and human services, which is health care, and it is our welfare system.
We have got to start saying “no.” We can’t do it. We can’t afford it. That means people will hurt. We have to get back to the philosophy of personal responsibility. Certain people have just got to stand up and care of themselves. They can’t look to the government to care of them. We have got to start rooting out fraud. To do that, we have got to start saying “no…”
Those are the bad choices. The worse choice is we just keep going on, and this is really what frightens me. Often times, we listen to Democrats like Dayton… who say all we have to do is raise taxes and we’re gonna be just fine. But there’s a structural deficit in our spending of about $500 billion dollars, and that’s just in the state of Minnesota. It’s close to a half a million dollars… We can’t just raise taxes and take care of this. It’s just not gonna resolve it. If we get into a squeeze in our bond markets, if somehow we go into a double-dip recession – which is a very possible scenario, you’re gonna see a house of cards tumbling here that could lead to a very frightening situation for states.

All Eyes On Israel
June 10, 2010 – Fightin Words on Sentinel Radio with Walter Hudson and David Lutchen. What is it about Israel and the Jewish people that evokes such controversy and passion? Days before an Israeli interdiction which resulted in several deaths brought the wrath of the international community down upon the small Middle Eastern nation, North Korea sunk an entire ship with comparatively little objection. How can such a despairity in reaction be explained?

What Are Civil Rights?
May 25, 2010 – Fightin Words on Sentinel Radio, with Walter Hudson and David Lutchen. Since the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960′s, civil rights have held a sacrosanct place in American political culture. Evoking them seems to make one boo-proof. No one would dare come out against civil rights, because a connotation has been crafted linking the term with decent and respectful behavior. But what really are civil rights? Why were they required to end institutional racism? Are civil rights inherently good? We consider these questions in light of the recent controversy surrounding comments by Rand Paul and John Stossel regarding Title II of the Civil Rights Act.

Convert or Destroy: Tyrannical Ideologies
May 18, 2010 – Fightin Words on Sentinel Radio, with Walter Hudson and David Lutchin. We take another look at Ron Gochez, teacher from the Los Angles Unified School District, and his advocacy for a “Mexican revolutionary group.” Tyrannical ideologies come in many forms, but meet at the point of absolute power. We consider how, whether motivated by religion, race, nationality, or mere political ideology, all would-be tyrants want the same thing, and are willing to cooperate to get it.

The Politics of Force: Violence & Government
March 22, 2010 – No matter how animated political and social commentators get, they typically offer the claim they are “non-violent,” and stress to their audiences the importance of peaceful civic action. Terrorism is generally defined to be the use of violence to affect political change, and clearly carries a negative connotation. The underlying message of these trends would seem to be, “Violence is not a valid tool for affecting political or social change.” However, this flies in the face of both a plain view of history (American Revolution, anyone?) and our contemporary reality. Government may be described in one word as “force.” Government is an agent of violence. Government is there to coerce behavior under penalty of fine, imprisonment, great bodily harm, or death. That is all it can do, its sole capacity. That we condone the existence of government suggests we do, in fact, condone the use of violence to affect both political and social change. So, the question becomes, not whether it is okay to be violent, but when. In Fightin Words return to BlogTalkRadio, we shall address this intriguing introspective question in relation to the First American Revolution, and its modern statist counterpart, the Progessive movement.
Also, reaction to the passage of Obamacare.

Bring Home The Politicians
March 8, 2010 – There is an idea floating around you may not have heard of. It’s called e-Congress, or decentralization. Utilizing state-of-the-art telecommunications technology, legislative bodies would conduct business via teleconference rather than gathering at the state and national capitols. Sound crazy? The military has been operating this way for years. So have major corporations. Fightin Words welcomes Michael Norbury of BringHomeThePoliticians.com to discuss the idea, tackle objections, and explore how it may become reality.
Later in the podcast, we reflect upon the civil rights struggle of the 1960′s, and how it served to degrade state’s rights and discredit constitutional federalism. Americans of every race have paid a price since. Liberty is not so much freedom as self-governance; a lack of moral fortitude invites tyranny.

Spending Tomorrow’s Cash Today
February 22, 2010 – While many rightfully criticize the federal government for reckless spending, state and local governments can be just as irresponsible. As an example, consider Minnesota’s current legislative battle over a bonding bill which will increase debt by $1.2 billion for, among other things, zoo upgrades and walking trails.
Also, US Representative Ron Paul wins the CPAC presidential straw poll. What may this indicate regarding the state of federal politics?

The Policing of Class
February 14, 2010 – There is a curious phenomenon among the social classes, the policing of behavior to assure peers do not ascend. This is done most commonly through verbal berating. “Who do they think they are?” is a common refrain.
This phenomenon is common to virtually any social caste. It is with ample irony, in this land of the free and home of the brave, where liberty and justice are ostensibly for all, that many who attempt to break from the shackles of social expectation are derided by their peers as sell outs. Blacks in this category are commonly derided as “Uncle Toms” or “house negros.”
This week we consider how this tendency, when applied to politics, enables tyranny. We must overcome the self-depreciation of the common class and truly embrace that foundational American sentiment, “All men are created equal.”

Critical Thought in 2010 Politics
February 7, 2010 – As the National Tea Party Convention convened in Nashville, pundits out of touch with the movement wondered whether it will become a third party and negatively affect the GOP. Absent in such pondering is an acknowledgment of the people’s capacity for critical thought. While it is certainly true many have given politicians and parties too much benefit of too little doubt, times have shifted. The outcomes of the 2010 elections promise to be determined, at least in part, by an unprecedented application of non-partisan thoughtful deliberation.

Reagan’s War: Yesterday & Today
January 24, 2010 – In the wake of Scott Brown’s historic ascent to the Senate, there has been much ado regarding what is to come. Republicans tempted to assume good things for the GOP must realize the sea change reflected in Massachusetts has less to do with partisan politics and more to do with an electorate taken for granted.
Progressives in the Democratic party have responded with contempt for the voters of Massachusetts, revealing their allegiance is not to democracy or their articulated populist sentiment, but oligarchy justified occasionally by election. A “secret plan” is in the works to undermine the constitutional legislative process and conspiratorially leverage the budgetary reconciliation process to shove radical health care reform down America’s throat.
In this truly historic time, we may benefit from considering the words of Ronald Reagan in his campaign address for Barry Goldwater in 1964. He spoke then of the same struggle we face today, with words as applicable to 2010 as any time or place where freeman have held the line against tyranny.

Restoring the Republic
January 3, 2010 – 2009 ended poorly for those of us vested in the preservation of the American republic. The process which resulted in the passage of Obamacare indicates we are now led by an elite oligarchy wholly ambivalent to the will of the people. Congress Wishes You A Very Commie Christmas
December 20, 2009 – Coming out of the weekend, it is increasingly clear the Senate will pass socialized medicine with the first vote likely before Christmas. The Minneapolis Star Tribune touts a Congressional Budget Office estimate which suggests spending hundreds of billions of dollars will somehow cut $132 billion from the deficit, a concept plainly nonsensical. We take a look at how the CBO came up with that number, and why its bogus. Lastly, we sample an upcoming “sunglass wearer’s” review of James Cameron’s Avatar.

Obama Calls For Perfected Human Condition
December 13, 2009 – As I perused remarks from President Barrack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, I was surprised by the extent to which I agreed with them. In particular, these excerpts resonated:
War, in one form or another, appeared with the first man…
<snip>
We will not eradicate violent conflict in our lifetimes. There will be times when nations — acting individually or in concert — will find the use of force not only necessary but morally justified.
… As someone who stands here as a direct consequence of Dr. King’s life work, I am living testimony to the moral force of non-violence. I know there’s nothing weak — nothing passive — nothing naïve — in the creed and lives of Gandhi and King.
But as a head of state sworn to protect and defend my nation, I cannot be guided by their examples alone. I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people. For make no mistake: Evil does exist in the world. A non-violent movement could not have halted Hitler’s armies. Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda’s leaders to lay down their arms. To say that force may sometimes be necessary is not a call to cynicism — it is a recognition of history; the imperfections of man and the limits of reason.
I found these comments amazing coming from the most liberal president in American history. They demonstrate an awareness of human nature which is antithetical to many of the policies Obama pursues. One must wonder how that is possible. How can Obama understand human nature, yet act as though he did not understand it? He provides a hint of an answer.
“We do not have to think that human nature is perfect for us to still believe that the human condition can be perfected.”
If you find that sentiment perplexing, you have good reason. It defies plain sense. How can we perfect the human condition if our nature is imperfect? Again, Obama provides a hint:
Concretely, we must direct our effort to the task that President Kennedy called for long ago. “Let us focus,” he said, “on a more practical, more attainable peace, based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions.”
Evolved human institutions will perfect the human condition? Forgive my conceit at questioning the sage wisdom of John F. Kennedy, but how can a human institution accomplish something outside the scope of human nature? Obama does not overtly say. But he does provide a list of goals such an institution should pursue.
To begin with, I believe that all nations — strong and weak alike — must adhere to standards that govern the use of force.
<snip>
Only a just peace based on the inherent rights and dignity of every individual can truly be lasting.
<snip>
Third, a just peace includes not only civil and political rights — it must encompass economic security and opportunity. For true peace is not just freedom from fear, but freedom from want.
These pillars of Obama’s vision for “just peace” can only manifest from a sovereign global institution empowered to enforce its will upon the nations of the world, most conspicuously by redistributing wealth. In other words, Obama is calling for a communist world government. He does so while pointing to the environmental cause of Copenhagen, where a treaty which could establish such a government is set to be signed this week.
By acknowledging the fallibility of human nature and then calling for an institution to perfect the human condition, Obama suggests the inherent superiority of whoever could craft such an institution. For if human nature is fallible, as Obama admits, then any human institution will likewise be fallible. An institution cannot evolve beyond the beings which constitute it. So, the question is raised; does Obama maintain an institution’s nature can surpass that of the people who constitute it? Or does Obama believe some people are perfect, and therefore capable of constituting a perfect institution? Either explanation for Obama’s remarks is cause for concern.

The Creature From Copenhagen
![]()
December 6, 2009 – The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is officially under way. President Obama, after waffling on his agenda, has announced he will attend the end of the conference. The Associated Press now confirms, almost verbatim, the agenda Lord Christopher Monckton warned Americans about during his presentation in Minnesota last month. The intent of those gathered at Copenhagen is to strike a deal which would cede United States sovereignty to a foreign governmental authority empowered to enforce radical redistribution of wealth to Third World countries. The initial proposed cost is 30 billion dollars over three years with “hundreds of billions” of dollars to follow indefinitely. Yet, the entire premise upon which the scheme is based lies in tattered ruins. Anthropogenic climate change has been revealed as a myth as egregious and insidious as the Nazi pseudo-science which attempted to justify genocide. This week, Fightin Words takes the mainstream media to task, along with politicians and the public they represent. When will we wake up to the subversion of our republic?
Plus, what does the reaction by some to Tiger Wood’s alleged affairs signal of our society? Is it mere tabloid fluff? Or is there a greater lesson to be learned? You may be surprised by our answer.

The Manhattan Declaration
November 29, 2009 – The mainstream media continues to demonstrate gross negligence regarding “climate change” as President Barrack Obama announces he will attend the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Copenhagen this month. The coverage of the announcement centers around whether or not Obama’s plans will be effective politically instead of whether anthropogenic climate change is a problem worth discarding our national sovereignty over.
Meanwhile, a group of cross-denominational Christian leaders have drafted a declaration asserting their duty to speak out in defense of three key principles. We take a look at the Manhattan Declaration and how it breaks down the barriers of compartmentalized thought.

Was Jesus A Socialist?
November 22, 2009 – There is a charge among some left-leaning professed Christians that conservative social policies neglect Christ’s commission to minister to the poor. Does the parable of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25 imply Christians should petition their government to enforce “redistributive justice?” Jack Clark thinks so. We excerpt Clark’s podcast, Blast the Right, and consider his “equivalent alternative solutions challenge;” it is fine to oppose government programs which provide for the poor, Clark says, but only if you can present an equivalent alternative solution which will help just as many people, in the just the same way, just as fast. Otherwise, by Clark’s reading of Matthew 25, you are going to hell. Is he right? Was Jesus a socialist? Consider the arguments in this week’s show.

What Makes America Exceptional?
November 15, 2009 – Claims of American exceptionalism tend to evoke either knee-jerk patriotic fervor or “intellectual” bemoaning of unwarranted arrogance. Either reaction misses the point. America does stand exceptional among the nations of Earth. This is not a rhetorical claim without substantiation, but an indisputable historical fact. What makes America exceptional is no cause for arrogance, pride, or self-adulation. It is the unique source of philosophical pillars which have contributed to an unlikely continuity of government for nearly two and a half centuries. Knowing the secret to our success, which has been made secret through concerted effort by domestic enemies of our Constitution, is an essential prerequisite to restoring and maintaining the republic. One cannot repair or perpetuate that which they do not understand.

After the Tea Party
November 8, 2009 – The Tea Party movement has aroused a lot of energy, accelerated by continual disregard by our elected officials for the will of the people, the Rule of Law, and those principles upon which our nation was founded. Can this energy be focused in an effective manner to actually effect change? Many believe so. But there is disagreement as to how. The Liberty of the Unborn
November 5, 2009 – In this special episode of Fightin Words, we tackle the always sensitive and oft avoided subject of abortion. The pro-choice movement often characterizes abortion as a liberty issue, framing the mother’s choice to end her pregnancy as a right which the pro-life movement would deny. Of course, one’s liberty is obviously limited when its exercise infringes upon another. The question is therefore whether the unborn are human beings with an unalienable right to life. If the answer to this question is determined arbitrarily, the consequences have a much longer reach than one woman’s choice. We present an engaging consideration of this controversial topic, guarenteed to make you think.

Conservative Revolutionary
November 1, 2009 – Conservative activist Bryan Björnson joins Fightin Words to promote The A1S8 Society, an organization committed to restoring the republic by limiting the federal government to its enumerated constitutional powers. Björnson advocates aggressive action to cut the legs out from under runaway spending by repealing the 1943 Current Payments Tax Act, ending payroll deduction and forcing people to confront how much they pay in taxes.
What’s the point of the Constitution if the “general welfare” clause gives the government carte blanche to do whatever it pleases? How would the Founding Fathers react to “compassionate conservatism?” If we didn’t see government shrink after the 2004 GOP gains, how can we ever expect to? These questions and more are addressed in this week’s episode.

In The Year of Our Lord, 2012
October 25, 2009 – It is important to understand radical Muslim theology, not because it is true, but because some of the people who believe it want to kill you. Likewise, it is important to understand a lesser known theology which may also spawn efforts to harm. This week, Fightin Words entertains the fringe, exploring the New Age movement, theosophy, Luciferianism, and similar paradigms which share a common vision of a coming “enlightenment” or “shift in consciousness” which will subvert the “Old Order” and unify humanity under a single banner. Those who resist this shift will be “holding humanity back,” and are to be dealt with accordingly. The shift is due, we are told, in the year 2012. These views need to be taken seriously, not because they are based on an underlying truth, but because the language of their anticipated world order is nearly identical to that proposed by the political progressives currently in power across the globe. At the very least, this New Age belief provides an opportunity for globalist progressives to gain support for radically transformative policies. It is often said the Left is a religion. In this case, it is literally true.![]()

The New Crusade
August 23, 2009 – Fightin Words welcomes Phred Barnet of Americanly Yours blog to discuss his efforts to promote the Audit the Fed bill currently stuck in committee in the House of Representatives. Why is it so important that the Federal Reserve become transparent and what can we do to help?
Also, the Obama administration switches tactics in the health care debate, now appealing to religion to make a moral argument for a public option. Do they have a leg to stand on?
Plus, Representative Eric Massa from New York tells his constituents he would vote against their will for a public option, even if it cost him the next election. Is Massa just arrogant, or demonstrating something analogous to leadership?

Health Care and the Fable of the Camel’s Nose
August 17, 2009 – We’ve been here before. During his first term, then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt told the American people that their Social Security contributions would be kept safe in a trust fund and the benefits would never be taxable as income. He was not lying. But Democrats later changed the plan to their liking. Once the infrastructure of the program was in place, fine tuning it became a hell of a lot easier than getting rid of it. Today’s advocates for what is being called health care reform understand this concept. They are scrambling to compromise on a bill that will lay the foundation for the public option they want, knowing they can frame up the rest later. We can’t let this camel get his nose in the tent.

From the Desk of the Propaganda Minister
August 8, 2009 – As the Obama administration faces far more opposition to their nationalized health care initiative than they originally anticipated, and the prospect of successfully ramming it through Congress seems less certain, their propaganda machine has been turned up full force. The president now has a “disinformation czar” getting out in front of headlines and telling the American people which to believe. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi implies critics of Obamacare are swastika-toting Nazis. The Democratic National Committee characterizes the opponents of socialist medicine as “an angry mob” organized by “high level Republican operatives.” Fightin Words gets to the bottom of it.

Skip Gates and the Black Time Warp
July 27, 2009 – Henry “Skip” Lewis Gates Jr. is under the impression it’s 1967 and he’s being rinsed off his porch with a fire hose. Fightin Words delves into the mindset of old black civil rights soldiers and their refusal to accept they won.
Also, Fed chairman Ben Bernanke says the economy is looking up because, well, it has to eventually, right?

July 7, 2009 – 1500 page bills getting passed without anyone reading them? Cities trying to dictate the housing market and no one knows about it? The established professional media is not doing their job. It’s time to become the media, seek out your own news, and spread the word.

Fear Your Beloved Democracy
June 16, 2009 – It’s a rant this week. Fightin Words focuses on the dangers of pure democracy and how it leads to socialism and even fascism (Hilter was elected).
James von Brunn hates blacks and Jews; he also has a problem with the Federal Reserve. I guess that means anyone who criticizes the Fed is a kook like von Brunn. Right? That’s logical, isn’t it?

Conservative Hand-Wringing & The Abortion of George Tiller
June 8, 2009 – Fightin Words interviews Chris Naron, Rightnation’s Conservative Mindcleaner, regarding the killing of late term abortionist George Tiller. How much need the conservative community condemn Tiller’s murder? Has the reaction and characterization of “tragedy” been overblown? The conversation touches on the Republican party’s identity crisis and the skewed perception of political spectrum which calls a slower paced march to socialism “right-wing.”

It’s Not About Liberal Versus Conservative
June 2, 2009 – In this off-cycle special episode, we patch together excerpts from a 2007 Alex Jones interview with filmmaker Aaron Russo into a twenty minute crash course on the false left/right paradigm. Russo succinctly articulates both the fake and actual political dichotomies in American politics. It’s not about right versus left, it’s about liberty versus tyranny.

Episode 5 – Leaving The World A Worse Place
May 31, 2009 – “The heart of the problem is that the Greatest Generation and baby boomers have promised themselves retirement benefits so generous — and have contributed so little to financing them — that even the most prosperous economy in history cannot pay the bill.”
The Boomers are coming, a tidal wave of retirees who bought the lie that living in the moment and depending on government negated the need to prepare for their twilight years. As a result, the younger generations of today are faced with a nearly impossible burden unless tough choices are made soon. Can we teach ourselves the lesson our parents neglected, to live within our means rather than borrow on the earning power of our children?
Obama Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayer is also discussed.

Episode 4 – God’s Answer to Economic Crisis?
May 25, 2009 – Don’t worry, it’s not a bible study. We simply take a look at a little known concept from Old Testament law which addresses responsible economic behavior and ask whether it might be worth re-examining in a modern context.
Fightin Words also covers the Cyberbullying Act currently making its way through Congress which, if passed, would literally make it illegal to tease someone on the internet.

Episode 3 – First Amendment Up for De Facto Repeal
May 16, 2009 – Fightin Words turns over the bulk of the podcast to excerpts from a recent report by Focus on the Family regarding H.R. 1913, the Local Law Enforcement and Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which effectively repeals the First Amendment to the US Constitution by making it a federal felony to speak against what has traditionally been considered deviant sexual behavior. There are no protections for religious speech, meaning your clergymen could potentially become federal felons for doing their job.

Episode 2 – Genetic Privacy, Online Poker, and the Obama Constitution
May 11, 2009 – Fightin Words writes an epilogue for the Swine Flu “pandemic”, responds to President Obama’s disdain for tea parties, and revisits the issue of genetic privacy in the state of Minnesota. The bulk of the podcast covers the ongoing struggle of the Citizens’ Council on Health Care against certain Minnesota state legislators and the Minnesota Department of Health to overturn a law requiring informed consent for the storage and use of newborn DNA. The Department of Health has displayed blatant disregard for the law with apparent impunity. We also cover the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s effort to ban internet poker in the state, and tie everything together with an analysis of President Obama’s frustrations with the US Constitution, and how they underline the philosophy driving American government in the twenty-first century.

Episode 1 – Reverse Discrimination and “Moderate” Islam
April 27, 2009 – In this inaugural edition of the Fightin Words podcast, we highlight a case before the US Supreme Court regarding a promotion test administered by the Haven, Connecticut fire department which minority fire fighters claim is racist. We also cover the Vatican’s recent defense of Pope Benedict XVI’s comments regarding AIDS in Africa, the attempt in the Minnesota state legislature to repeal the Genetic Privacy Law, and what Minnesotans can do to stop it. We also comment on the politically correct notion that radical Islamists are mutually exclusive from Islam as a whole.
