There is a certain danger in relying upon information from a blog. That may seem an odd statement to encounter in a blog post. Even so, it is true, and there is no point in pretending otherwise.

I can tell you from personal experience that the necessity to produce content nurtures the tendency to regurgitate information found elsewhere without first digesting it. The danger in this practice is demonstrated in the child’s game “telephone.” When a group of children sit in a circle and pass a brief message whispered from one neighbor to the other, the content is often very different by time it gets around.

While engaged in my daily perusal of the blogosphere, I encountered a bit over at The Stir which I suspected to be the result of such a “telephone effect.” Writer Sasha Brown-Worsham took issue with an odd children’s book written by David W. Hedrick, a former congressional candidate from the state of Washington. Her criticism of Liberal Claus, an apparent twist on The Grinch Who Stole Christmas featuring President Obama in the role of the Grinch, was not what got my attention. It was a sentence which prefaced it.

NewsReal’s Walter Hudson Profiles the Tea Party Movement on Twin Cities Radio

A unique opportunity was presented to local Tea Party coordinators in Minnesota to broadcast a one-time radio program on AM 1280 The Patriot in the Twin Cities. NRB’s Concession Stand associate editor Walter Hudson was among those invited to participate.

The first hour covers the origin of the Tea Party movement, how people found their way to it, and the libertarian philosophy which undergirds it. The future of the movement is speculated to be the fight for state’s rights. Hudson explains the importance of restoring and maintaining the distribution of power which the U.S. Constitution established.

The second hour covers, among other things, Minnesota’s gubernatorial recount between Republican state representative Tom Emmer and former Democratic US senator Mark Dayton. The discussion includes insights from Minnesota Majority’s Dan McGrath.

Back in the ‘90s, there was a concerted effort among movie producers to develop a new Superman film. Few of the people involved were devoted to the comic. A plethora of treatments floated around, each of which left much to be desired.

One of the ideas that came and went was that Lex Luthor and the evil alien Brainiac would somehow blot out the sun, the source of Superman’s power, and unleash the monster Doomsday to kill him. I was reminded of this loony plot element recently when a friend forwarded me a peculiar story about a woman who now claims to own the sun.

Stick with me on this. I promise it will be worth your while.

After billions of years the Sun finally has an owner — a woman from Spain’s soggy region of Galicia said Friday she had registered the star at a local notary public as being her property.

“Religulous:” 9 Answers to Bill Maher’s Anti-Religious Zealotry

This much I guarantee, if you care at all about the world in which you live and hold to a particular view which dictates how that world may be improved, you will be offended by what you are about to read. Given the nature of the subject matter, provocation cannot be avoided. We’re going to exam the most sacred and fundamental beliefs which undergird our thoughts, feelings, traditions, and actions. We’re going to consider ideas people die for. We’re going to consider about ideas people kill for. We’re going to do so because debate has sprung up in America, and around the world, regarding whether people of faith ought to have the right to live according to their beliefs. The stakes of that debate are nothing less than individual liberty, and extend to matters life and death.

One of the chief voices in popular culture articulating the anti-religion argument is Bill Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time and among the most antagonistic leftist ideologues participating in our public discourse. In 2008, Maher produced Religulous, a documentary-style film in which he interviews “some of religion’s oddest adherents.” The film is more than a critique of religion. It is a call to arms for the purpose of uprooting and destroying religion. Cinema Blend critic Josh Tyler articulated the purpose succinctly.

Early on in Religulous, Bill Maher throws up a bar chart illustrating the number of people in America who are non-religious. That number is 16%, more than blacks, more than Jews, more than numerous other minority groups who seem to have no problem making themselves heard and getting Congress to do their bidding. Maher wonders aloud why non-religious people are so underground, and why they aren’t having an impact on the national discussion. His film is aimed squarely at that 16% of the country, and almost no one else. His goal, and he clearly has one, is to give those people the motivation they need to come out of the closet and do something… before it’s too late.

Among the characteristics indicative of the Left, perhaps none is more fascinating and frustrating than moral relativism. It is a perspective which regards only claims of truth as evil, and only universalism as good.

The day before the election, I stood in a lecture hall addressing students at Carleton College in Minnesota. My topic was the Tea Party and its role in our political discourse. During the question and answer session, a student steered the conversation toward Islam, asking whether there is a sentiment within the Tea Party that Islam is a threat.

There is no coherent Tea Party position on Islam, as the topic is generally considered to be outside the scope of the movement. However, when Tea Party principles are applied to the topic, a position is easy enough to craft.

Iranian Woman, Sentenced to Death by Stoning, May Be Spared

2008’s The Stoning of Soraya M. jarred audiences with an uncompromising portrayal of Islamic “justice” in Iran. The film was based on a book by French journalist Freidoune Sahebjam, and relayed the true story of a woman framed for adultery by her husband as a way to extricate himself from the marriage. Under Islamic Sharia Law, adultery is a crime punishable by death.

The story is told in the form of a flashback. Soraya’s aunt recites the tale to Sahebjam. We therefore know from the start (if not the title) how the story ends. That is part of what makes the film so powerful. As the circumstances building toward Soraya’s stoning take shape, the viewer finds their fragile hope repeatedly dashed upon the rocks of foreknowledge.

Another real-life tale of the sickening injustice manifest in Sharia Law has taken shape in recent years. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman, was sentenced to death by stoning only four years ago. The handling of her case reveals the moral confusion which manifests in Islamic legalism.

“Homefront” Video Game Imagines Korean-Occupied U.S. As Real Crisis Looms on Peninsula

Oscar Wilde once said, “Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life.” Those words seem rather apt as North Korea, an imagined enemy in a forthcoming videogame, dominates the real-world news this week.

North Korea fired dozens of artillery shells onto a South Korean island on Tuesday, killing one person, setting homes ablaze and triggering an exchange of fire as the South’s military went on top alert.

In what appeared to be one of the most serious border incidents since the 1950-53 war, South Korean troops fired back with cannon, the government convened in an underground war room and “multiple” air force jets scrambled.

The firing came after North Korea’s disclosure of an apparently operational uranium enrichment programme — a second potential way of building a nuclear bomb — which is causing serious alarm for the United States and its allies.

“Dancing With the Stars” Host Defends Bristol Palin Against Conspiracy Rumors

My man-pride requires prefacing this post with a disclaimer. I do not make a habit of watching Dancing with the Stars. I was, however, in the room as a guest in my mother’s house while she and my sister watched it earlier this week. There was nothing I could do. Two of them. One of me.

Despite my misfortune, it provided the opportunity to see Bristol Palin and judge for myself whether she deserved to be on the show. Even to my untrained and highly disinterested eye, she did not perform to the level of singer Brandy or the mesmerizing Jennifer Grey.

In spite of her lackluster effort, Palin moved along to the finals, surviving another round of elimination by viewer vote. This prompted one Wisconsin man to shot his own television. Less impulsive reactions include speculation that Palin’s success is due to a vast Republican conspiracy.
