Behold the DFL’s “Green Jobs Program,” They Ride, You Push

The above photo was snapped at a parade in Senate District 43 early this summer. You’d be hard pressed to come up with a better analogy for the Democrat’s public policy than this Ford Mustang convertible plastered with rally cards for Democratic incumbents State Senator Terri Bonoff, State Representative John Benson, and Democratic candidate for State House Audrey Britton. Out of gas and propelled by those who would otherwise ride in it, this Mustang stands in for an over-blown government focused on flash and amenities rather than fundamentals – like fuel!
On the bright side, it’s also a model for environmentally friendly behavior. Were we to embrace the artificial commodity scheme known as cap-and-trade, which would “necessarily skyrocket” energy costs, this might be how most of us would be getting around. Car pushing could become gainful “green” employment.

Star Wars is on it’s way back to theaters in 2012. Creator George Lucas has long hinted at his intention to re-re-release his popular space saga utilizing state-of-the-art exhibition technology.
Lucasfilm Ltd and Twentieth Century Fox film studio, which are behind the movies, said on Wednesday they will release 3D versions of all six films to theaters starting with “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” in 2012.
The movies will be converted to 3D by the special effects wizards at Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic.
The Hollywood Reporter states each subsequent film in the series will be released annually. The films will then make their way to 3D home theaters which should – by 2018 – be relatively common.

“C.S.I.” Premiere Exploits Justin Bieber to Target Tea Party, Says Breitbart

CBS exploited teen heartthrob Justin Bieber in its CSI season premiere last Friday in order to smear the Tea Party movement. So concluded Andrew Breitbart and others in the hubbub which followed:
Bieber plays “a domestic terrorist with Tea Party leanings” involved in a conspiracy to bomb the funeral of a police officer.
This is a public relations trap which conservatives may be too eager to fall into. Despite the “Tea Party” description among punditry, the unnamed violent anarchist fringe group depicted in the CSI premiere is so far removed from the Tea Party that describing it as such is like referring to Martin Luther King Jr. as a Black Panther.

“An Inconvenient Truth” Director Takes on Teachers’ Unions, But Misses the Point

Though Al Gore catches most of the rap, prolific if unfamiliar director Davis Guggenheim shares equal responsibility for what is perhaps the greatest cinematic fraud of our time. Bragging to Cinematical in a recent interview, Guggenheim recalls:
… with An Inconvenient Truth, the percentage of people who thought global warming is real went from something like 30 to 80, and there were a lot of laws passed, and a lot of lives changed. And hundreds of people kept coming to me saying, “My company changed its policies,” and “My daughter made me buy a Prius,” and “I put solar panels on my house.”
Despite the unconscionable bias and rampant inaccuracies which have since been methodically debunked, Guggenheim’s collaboration with Gore may ultimately contribute to the creation of an artificial commodity which will “necessarily skyrocket” energy costs, and subsequently the cost of everything under the sun. Meanwhile, Guggenheim is set to release his next “documentary” film, Waiting for “Superman”. With it, he hopes to accomplish for education reform what he did for the myth of hazardous anthropogenic global warming.

North Star Tea Party Patriots Reaches Out to MinnPost Readers

Friday, MinnPost published an article attempting to demystify the Tea Party movement for their readers. Writer Doug Grow sat down with three board members of the recently launched North Star Tea Party Patriots, including this writer, to get a feel for where the movement has been, where it is at, and wheter it will be here tomorrow. Based on the comment section, it’s fair to say MinnPost’s readership tends slightly left of center. What follows is my resposne to their comments.
I’d like to thank Doug Grow for chatting with us and writing this article. One of the points we discussed which he wasn’t able to squeeze in is that the polarization in our current political dialogue is unproductive. The fact that we disagree does not make one side or the other ignorant, uneducated, or somehow evil. Grow, a writer who certainly does not share the Tea Party paradigm, was nonetheless able to engage us in a cordial conversation which included substantive debate.
One of the goals of the North Star Tea Party Patriots is to create opportunities to dialogue directly with individuals and groups who hold opposing political views. Too often, we let our media have the conversation for us, or allow the anonymity of the internet to tempt us toward name-calling instead of honest discussion. “Dexter,” Showtime’s Super-Heroic Sociopath, Returns Sunday

When I first heard the synopsis for Showtime’s Dexter, before watching a single episode back in 2006, I was doubtful the premise could be sustained beyond one or two seasons. Michael C. Hall plays Dexter Morgan, a Miami forensic scientist specializing in blood spatter analysis for the city’s police department. He moonlights as a serial killer. Haunted by the memory of his long-dead adoptive cop father, who recognized in the son a familiar compulsion toward murder, Dexter adheres to a methodical code of conduct which requires he kill only those who have murdered others.
The first season was outstanding, with episodes of uniformly high quality, wit, and suspense. Once it was over however, I remained convinced there was no where else to go with the premise, that the second season would simply repackage the scenarios of the first, and the formula would become stale. To my pleasant surprise, the second season exceeded the first, and the third the second. For four years now, Dexter has reinvented itself over and over again, pushing the comfort zone of both its titular character and we the audience.
As the premiere episode of the fifth season approaches (this Sunday at 9pm EST), it has occurred to me that the reason Dexter is so appealing is because its mythology evokes the conventions of a crime-fighter comic book, without the child-like naivety. Dexter is a twisted superhero for grown-ups. His super-power is the greatly subdued empathy of a sociopath.
It’s not that Dexter feels nothing for the people around him, though that is often his claim. As the series has progressed, he has repeatedly demonstrated concern and even a degree of love for his adoptive sister Debra, played with vulgar relish by Jennifer Carpenter. He has displayed a sense of camaraderie and even loyalty toward his co-workers in the Miami Police Department. Not least of all, Dexter exhibits a genuine sense of righteous indignation when he dispatches his criminal prey, viewing his tightly focused homicidal rage as a function of extra-legal justice.
“The Daily Show” Exposes Labor Union Hypocrisy

You have to hand it to the crew over at The Daily Show. When it comes to leftist political philosophy, they are true believers. On occasion, when confronted with ideological hypocrisy, they will call their left-leaning brethren to the carpet. Such was the case Monday night when “correspondent” Aasif Mandvi confronted a union representative regarding the “exploitation” of the union’s own work force.
Though it was unlikely The Daily Show’s intention, this segment demonstrated the folly of the socialist economic philosophy which undergirds the union mentality. No matter their professed ideals, unions cannot alter economic realities, and inevitably must behave as any other actor in the market. Continue Reading “The Daily Show” Exposes Labor Union Hypocrisy…
The Latest Absurd Tea Party Smear: Its Driven By An Inter-Racial Sex Phobia

The Tea Party movement is motivated at its core by “fear of sex, race, and inter-racial ‘pollution.’” So says author David Rosen in a recent CounterPunch article.
The operative word is “says,” not “argues.” No argument is present in Rosen’s embarrassingly unfocused rant. Like a high school math student who neglects to show their work, Rosen skips straight from preconception to conclusion without bothering to offer a premise or supporting evidence. The Tea Party hates sex and brown people, Rosen says, punctuating the accusation with a list of personal scandals.
